CK [SILVERSMITH’S NAME UNDOCUMENTED]
Canton
circa 1840-1865
The only two known instance of a Chinese Export Silver maker’s mark masquerading as a Dublin pseudo-
hallmark - a crude attempt at copying the Hibernia and harp crowned marks are confined to two identical items -
a 19th century fish slice. It is a mark that has baffled collectors and no credible reason for it has been
discovered. There is no Irish silversmith that used these letters; the mark is obviously a crude pastiche, but it
has been regarded as a Chinese Export Silver mark for almost 60 years.
