                                                         A Chinese silversmith operating in Singapore

                                                         North Bridge Road [   ] is one of the oldest streets
                                                         in Singapore dating back to Raffle’s original 1835 plan.
                                                         Traditionally,  many  Chinese  silversmiths  and  jade
                                                         dealers  were  located  here.  The  British  East  India
                                                         Company were also here. South Bridge Road was also a
                                                         silversmith’s location.




                                                         A  circa  1880  snuff  bottle  decorated  with  a  traditional
                                                         Chinese  motif  of  magpies  amidst  prunus  and
                                                         surrounded by a n equally traditional Chinese meander
                                                         border.

                                                         Magpies  and  prunus  combined  is  the  allegorical
                                                         meaning of literally ‘Happiness up to your eyebrows’ [
                                                            ].
