A very rare Da Fu item, in fact a rare example of the art of Chinese
silver smithing. Dating to circa 1920, this high decorative lady’s
evening bag is possibly even unique. Decorated with a repoussé
floral, foliate and avian interwoven motif against a finely planished
ground, the bag has an overall traditional Chinese-Straits silver
character.
The bag is actually based on the traditional Malay marriage bag. that
was particularly popular in Malacca. Whether it was made as such,
we shall never know.
