DE XIANG [aka TAK CHANG]
            Peking [Beijing]
            circa 1895-1940

This is a mark that is not often seen; it is also a mark of
a manufacturing silversmith who could be far more
interesting than even this attractive pomegranate form
                                                             box.
De Xiang [or Tak Chang] could possibly be Tuck Chang,
                                                             the renowned Shanghai-based retail silversmith.
Research is continuing to [a] discover additional items
carrying the silver mark and [b] ascertain whether this
is a connection with Tuck Chang or not.

The enamel work is typical of Beijing and, as the detailing on
the side of the box shows equally typical traditional Chinese
decorative motifs such as the meander border.
