DU BIAN
Yokohama
circa 1880-1930
This is a rare mark to come across and somewhat of a silversmith named Watanabe. However this mark does
appear in auction items described as Chinese Export Silver and in fact it is Japanese Meiji silver
A circa 1895-1900 bowl carrying the Du Bian silver mark. The high relief work of the dragon is the result of very
deep repoussé work which Du Bian has chosen to hide behind a second skin interior bowl but in a manner one
would never find in Chinese silver making. The form of this bowl is “kiku” [chrysanthemum].
