FU JI
Shanghai
circa 1860-1930
Firstly this is a rare mark to find. Secondly, Fu Ji was a working silversmith shop that was also a had a retail
branch of Yang Qing He, suggesting Fu Ji was related to the owning family of this retail silversmith. The start
date of Fu Ji is therefore later than the start date of Yang Qing He.
A silver salver dating to
circa 1900 in a classic

decorated with traditional
Chinese motifs.
This salver and the Yang
Qing He mark featured in
the Chait Collection
catalogue compiled by
John Kernan. He
attributed it solely to “Fu
Chi” and for reasons
unknown chose to ignore
t h e Y a n g Q i n g H e
connection. Failing to
recognise the “shang”
mark denoting Shanghai,
he appears to have
assumed the maker was a
Canton silversmith.
