            For several years I have occasionally seen auction houses and silver dealers stating this silver mark simply
            says Hong Kong and implying this is the end of the story.
            The fact is that invariably, if such a mark is used, then it is only part of a mark and for various reasons, the
            complete mark has not been applied correctly.  One reason for this could well be the fact that most workers in
            silver workshops up until the late 1920s would have been likely to have been illiterate in Chinese and almost
            certainly in English.

            The mark above, for example, is clearly supposed to have been a mark for the Hong Kong retail silversmith Tack
            Hing.
