A pewter and paktong maker - although the mark is typical of Chinese pewter makers, the work is mistaken for
Chinese Export Silver as the words “Pewter Wares” has sometimes been removed from the mark and items tend
to have a polished “silver” finish. Tea caddies are a speciality, but generally the engraved decorative motifs are
much “cruder’ than any self-respecting silversmith would ever produce.
However, this is relatively
modern production and
items, whether intentionally
or not, often have an aged
finish that can fool the
initiated into believing
items might be silver. The
weight and “soft” feel of the
material should be the tell-
tale-sign.
