Page 598 - Chinese SIlver By Adrien Von Ferscht
P. 598
The beaker [right] presents somewhat of a
conundrum. It is by Wang Hing & Co, yet it carries
an inscription on the shield-shaped cartouche
“Penang Golf Club 1907”; the conundrum being
whether this came to Penang through Pritchard &
Company or direct from Wang Hing in Hong Kong.
What it does show is the Chinese style was
considered wholly appropriate for a colonial golf
club in a colonial town.
Pritchard & Company also published all the English
language postcards of Penang - The Penang Crag
Hotel, 1899 [right]. The photography was done by
Kaulfuss of Penang.
