The inscription reads: “May 3 1918 Mrs
Warren From pupils of St. James School
Wuhu”
The school was attached to St James
Anglican [Hua Sheng Kung Hui] church in
the city - the church came under the
jurisdiction of the Bishop of Hankow.
There are distinct similarities of the style of
this pot and others created elsewhere in
China around the same period [see last
illustration in this entry]
