XIN FENG XIANG
            Tientsin [Tianjin]
            circa 1900-1940

A fairly rare mark to find

A pair of circa 1920 six-lobed heavy gauge silver dishes decorated with an engraved crane bird flying amongst
pine branches. The dishes stand upon a slightly flared collet foot.

The depiction of a crane amidst a pine tree is known as ‘sōng lin hè shòu’, meaning ‘live as long as a pine and a
crane’. A crane and pine together ‘tóng’ in the spring ‘chūn’ invokes the meaning ‘sōng hè tóng chūn’ and is
often used in the context of a wedding motif to convey good wishes to a newly married couple.
