     A FAMILLE ROSE VASE

     republic period

     The thinly-potted vase is elegantly painted with several quails
     on a grassy embankment amongst flowering peony and bamboo
     emerging from rocks, all between a decorative band around the
     neck and a key-fret pattern around the foot. The base is inscribed
     with a two-character seal mark reading Shi Lu in iron red.

     The iron-red seal mark Shi Lu, was a studio mark used by Liang
     Duishi, a porcelain artist active between 1920-37. He was also the
     owner of the porcelain store Li Ze Xuan in Nanchang, Jiangxi.
