A PAIR OF Large DOUCAI ‘LOTUS’ VASES                                       清嘉慶 / 道光  
                                                                                              鬥彩福壽雙全夔龍耳大瓶一對
Jiaqing-Daoguang period (1796-1850)

Each vase is finely enamelled on the rounded sides to depict eight bats

in flight amidst four large lotus flowers and elaborate scrolling foliage

amongst further stylised florettes. The waisted cylindrical neck is

similarly decorated with a bat above a Shou character and flanked on

either side of the neck with a pair of dragon-form handles.
