Late Ming-Early Qing Dynasty
The globular body is intricately embellished with
silver inlay with a pair of taotie masks below a
pair of upright handles. The base is is inlaid with
a two-character maker’s mark, Shisou.

A PARCEL-GILT BRONZE
CENSER
MING DYNASTY, 16TH CENTURY
The well-cast body of the censer is decorated
with mythical beasts gambolling amidst a sea of
crashing waves, between a band of miscellaneous
treasures, Babao, to the foot and waisted neck,
which is flanked by a pair of dragon-head loop
handles. The decoration is finely chased and
gilt to highlight the relief work against a dark
punched ground. The base is incised with the
six-character mark, Yunjian Hu Wenming zhi,
‘Made by Hu Wenming of Yunjian’.
