A PAINTED AND GILT BRONZE FIGURE OF GUANYIN
MING DYNASTY, 17TH CENTURY

明十七世紀 鎏金銅觀世音菩薩坐像 「 田欽造 」、 「 東 」 刻款

The fgure is seated on top of a recumbent lion and lotus-petal base with the right hand in vitarkamudra
and the left holding a pearl. The long robes are adorned with elaborate jewellery and the two-sectioned
headdress has a seated Buddha to the centre. The bronze is covered in gilt with areas of coloured pigments.
The back of the fgure is inscribed with the characters tian qian zao, ‘made by Tian’, and dong, ‘east’.
