By Tametaka, Nagoya, 18th century (HATCHING TENGU)
The shishi seated, its head turning back to the right, one hind paw By Toyoyasu (1811-1883), Sasayama, Tanba Province,
raised to scratch the side of its face, the other hind leg trailing beneath early 19th century
to form the himotoshi, the wood somewhat worn with a fine patina; The karasu (crow-beaked) tengu levering itself out of its egg, one large
signed Tametaka. wing trailing over the cracked shell to its left, the slightly worn wood
3.5cm (1 3/8in). with a good patina, the eyes inlaid in pale translucent horn;
signed Toyoyasu. 4cm (1 9/16in) high.
