This particular picture perfectly illustrates
the issues you can find in shallow water
creek beds like the Mississippi River in
the first stages before even Coffee Pot
campground.
LOOK CLOSELY AND YOU SEE A
TREE SUBMERGED WITH BRANCHES
BROKE THAT POINTED LIKE
THEY ARE can stick a Inflatable Kayak
(possibly), puncture a molded kayak, may-
be, scratch or harm a canoe, doubtful,
BUT IF YOU WERE WALKING AND
STEPPED ON IT ……….Yes it would
go thru your shoe.
THIS PARTICULAR SECTION by the
time most people start traveling down the
Mississippi River in late May and June is
deeper water levels and most obstacles
unseen. Tree’s aren’t blocking the River
because the DNR hires local contrac-
tors to go up River from Lake Itasca and
remove obstacles like trees , while maintain
a “natural” appeal.
As Climate Change keeps occurring and
temperatures go up and seasonal rains
and weather systems change, early starts
like mine are becom- ing more advanta-
geous and hopefully in the future DNR
and local canoe and kayak enthusiasts
will address this issue.
For me I had to take it as I see’s it And as I
see’s it, I seized it.
