BackStory
“the Green River”
About a year before I decided to kayak the Mississippi River
I had purchased an Intex Explorer K-2, “bathtub” boat and
after kayaking some reservoirs and lakes decided I wanted
to try Kayaking the Green River - from “source to sea”
I had read a book on it. I studied some, and determined I
would portage the rapids “somehow” and set out completely
unprepared and naive to attempt this adventure.
My wife and I camped at a campground downriver from Green River Lakes, my starting point,
and we decided I would solo from Green River Lakes to the campground . There I would load
the rest of the gear.
I didn’t get that far.
Starting off in the Explorer excitement certainly carried the day because the Green River Lakes
are gorgeous and the start was everything I imagined it would be. Some issues arose like I ex-
pected and solving them gave me a sense of confidence. After all, this kayaking was new to
me, but wilderness adventures I was familiar with from Alaska.
