Self-Awareness:
The Core of Success
ntrepreneurship begins on a personal level and some individuals have
more potential for it than others. Some have a natural disposition for
Eentrepreneurship while others do not. There is a need to focus on the individual
by identifying natural entrepreneurial potential in order to harness and nurture it.
Some people are aware of their talents and abilities and are able to optimize them
while others are oblivious and limit their own potential.
If we examine the many lists of successful people that exist around the world in an
effort to pinpoint what makes them a success in their diverse journeys, there are
many common factors; skills, determination, resilience, intelligence, creativity and
so on.
Despite these common denominators, there are other unique qualities that
determine the potential for success. For example, emotional intelligence (EQ) is an
aspect of personality that has been identified as critical to success in today’s chaotic
business climate, especially for entrepreneurs. This is because EQ has a role to play
in performance enhancement, stress management, leadership styles, harnessing
innovation and creativity; all critical dimensions of entrepreneurship. The good news
is that one can consciously develop their EQ skills.
So how do the successful come to realize their potential? How do they harness their
strengths and use them to pivot their careers, businesses, personal relationships and
how can you do the same?
The answer lies in the process of self-discovery which begins with a self-cross
examination in order to become self-aware. This process requires dissecting behavior
through introspection as well as interacting with others in gathering constructive
information.
It provides insight into one’s personal strengths and areas that require development;
