               Probenicid and Sulfinpyrazone

 Reducing conversion of purines into uric acid  by xanthine
               oxidase inhibitors  allopurinol

        Anti-inflammatory drugs

NSAIDs such as indomethacin  inhibit inflammation of acute gouty

arthritis  reduce prostaglandin synthesis and phagocytosis by
        macrophages.

Colchicine  inhibit microtubule assembly  reduce migration of
        leukocytes and phagocytosis. Reduce inflammation

Glucocorticoids preferred for treatment of acute gouty arthritis

        Uricosuric Drugs

90% of uric acid is reabsorbed in proximal convoluted tubule

Uricosuric drugs  prevent reabsorption of uric acid in PCT
