It doesn’t matter if we have only one rule (in the case of Adam
and Eve), or 10 rules (The 10 Commandments), or 625 rules that
the Ancient Jews wound up trying to live by, or 10,000,000 rules
(that one of our U.S. Supreme Court Justices says we now have).
The fact is that mankind cannot or will not live by rules. At least
we can’t do it to God’s satisfaction.
Thus God sent Jesus with ‘good news of good things of the gospel.’
It is Satan who wants us to live by rules because he knows we will
always lose. Satan knows we cannot succeed living life by rules.
Thus, he knows if we try, that rules destroy relationship with God.
So, Satan wants us to DIE living by rules! If he can’t stop us from
going to heaven, he at least wants to make this life a living hell
— and he wants us to die in as much spiritual agony as possible.
Rules do this.
