P. 62
He said he won’t lose one that is his. He said not one who comes
to him will be cast out. He said we are safe in him. He said,
“Don’t fear.”
IN THIS PRETEND SCENARIO, Jesus is by your side through it all,
and you know he cannot lose your case.
He just puts his arm around you and says, “Father, this one is
mine. I’ve taken all of his sin and judgment upon me. He is free to
enter heaven for all eternity.”
The judgment of God is this: “Come into my rest.”
Now, if you’ve lived a life of law and rules, or a mixture of
grace and law, this scene in your mind can be very frightful. You
know that judgment means being judged for all the bad stuff
you’ve done for years.
For a legalist, or semi-legalist,
this is a GREAT way to die!
At least your foot is in the door.
As bad as the case against you is,
you at least know Jesus will win it for you.
As Christians, we have been dealing with the same problems
since the Garden of Eden. We’ve already seen how Eve was
tempted to become like God — which is the same thing we are
tempted with most Sunday mornings in most churches: “Be more
like God! Here’s how to do it.”
