II. Sime Darby Berhad against Qatar Petroleum
In April 2006, Qatar Petroleum (QP) awarded Sime Darby
Engineering (SDE) a contract to build and upgrade its oil
exploration facilities at the Bull Hanine and Maydan
Mahzan Fields. The contract valued at QR946 million
(RM951 million), was targeted to be completed by August
2008. However, the project was only completed in July
2009. SDE had incurred overrun costs due to the
prolongation cost and had submitted claims to QP
amounting to QR970 million. QP had rejected SDE
initiatives for a mutual commercial settlement.
