5. Estimation of Ether Extract

SCOPE
To estimate the Crude Fat or Ether Extract in feed and
feed stuffs.

PRINCIPLE
When a sample of feed is treated with a fat-soluble
solvent. Example, Ether. The solvent extracts all the fat
as well as other substance soluble in ether like sterol,

lecithin, resins and other volatile oils. As this extracts
contain not only true fats. i.e., triglycerides but also
other soluble substance, hence this extract is known
as Crude Fat or Ether Extract.
