           11. Estimation of Chloride as Sodium Chloride

           SCOPE
To estimate the chloride as sodium chloride in feed and
           feed stuffs.

           PRINCIPLE
An excess of standard silver nitrate of known volume is
added to the known volume of aliquot to form silver
chloride. To this 1:1 nitric acid is added to ensure that
                                                                        Picture-1 Picture-2
only silver chloride remains as precipitate. The excess
of silver nitrate unused is found out by titrating it with
Std. Potassium thiocyanate solution using ferric alum
as indicator. From this the exact amount silver nitrate
that combined with chlorine and the amount of chloride
           can be calculated.
