by applying this categories to the
renovation project, the hospital hopes to
incorporate energy reduction as a whole by
utilizing renewable sources and energy
efficient technology.
Materials and Resources
The hospital at St. Joseph’s Women’s
Center intends to apply for credit in the
following areas for a possible earning of 7
points. Storage and Collection of
Recyclables (required), Construction and
Demolition Waste Management Planning
(required), PBT Source Reduction- Mercury
(required), Building Life Cycle Impact
Reduction, Furniture and Medical
Furnishings. With these strategies in place,
the result will be an overall reduction in use
of harmful materials and proper reuse and
disposal of waste collected on site.
Indoor Environmental Quality
Because St. Joseph’s Women’s Center is a
Health Care building, it is considered vital
that it meet several of these requirements

Tobacco Smoke Control (required), Thermal
Comfort, Quality Views, and Acoustic
Performance.
Innovation
St. Joseph’s seeks to earn their LEED
accreditation by implementing the
following strategies for Innovation: 95% of
the original building is salvageable and can
be reused, education outreach programs for
new mothers will be hosted here, and that
the gardens shall be maintained through
the use of natural organic pest reduction
methods. In addition, the principal designer
for this project has achieved a status of
LEED AP BD+C, and her expertise in this
area shall be utilized through the beginning
and duration of construction.
Regional Priority
Based on the region with zip code 30033,
St. Joseph’s is able to seek further credit for
Rainwater Management, Cooling Tower
Water Use, Outdoor Water Use Reduction
and Indoor Water Use Reduction for a
possible 12 points.
