Gender Issues in Public Relations Profession

Gender is the difference in behavior between men and women that is socially
constructed in people's lives. The gender issues have also entered the realm of
professions, one of which is the public relations profession. A number of global
studies noted that the issues of gender in public relations have been widely
carried out by researchers in several parts of the world. The results show signs of
inequality in the public relations profession. It is very important to see new
content about public relations, especially in Indonesia. As is known, the public
relations profession in Indonesia is often considered a feminine profession and is
suitable for women. In addition, communication science, including public
relations, is one of the fields of science that is increasing in demand today. Is the
field of public relations in particular of equal interest to male and female
students? What are the issues that are developing in the field of public relations
today? This study aims to analyze current gender issues in public relations in
Indonesia and to identify key elements, trends and research gaps. A systematic
literature review was carried out using the Google Scholar database for the
period 2001 to 2021 which produced 200 scientific articles. Data analysis was
carried out through content analysis tools and abstract statistical processing by
Nvivo software, version 12. The results show that the category consists of studies
on gender issues in public relations in Indonesia, based on principles, processes,
practices, and values. organization. This paper aims to contribute to the ongoing
discussion on the topic of gender issues in public relations in Indonesia analyzing
the state of the art and the future direction of public relations studies.

Short Biography:
Dr. Mulyanti Syas, M.Sc., completed his undergraduate studies at the Institute
of Social and Political Sciences (IISIP) Jakarta, Faculty of Communication
Sciences, Department of Journalism. S2 and S3 education are taken at the
University of Indonesia, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP),
Department of Communication Studies. He is the Head of Research and
Development, Indonesian Communication Scholars Association (ISKI) in West
Sumatra. He currently teaches at the Department of Islamic Communication and
Broadcasting, Faculty of Da'wah and Communication, Imam Bonjol State Islamic
University, West Sumatra, Indonesia. This scientific background directs his
interest in the study of mass communication, including Journalism and Public
Relations.
