PARTICIPATION IN THE NYAA PROGRAMME
The National Youth Achievement Award (NYAA) Youth Leadership Development Programme is a
transformative self-development journey for young individuals aged 13 to 30. Designed as a
comprehensive, non-competitive, and inclusive platform, it empowers youth to engage
meaningfully in voluntary leisure activities that cultivate personal growth, develop life skills, and
foster a strong sense of social responsibility.
Rooted in the belief that every young person has the potential to make a positive difference, the
NYAA Programme encourages participants to discover their strengths, build character, and
contribute to their communities and beyond. The programme is closely aligned with the Ministry
of Education's Levels of Attainment, emphasising individual effort, commitment, and merit-based
progression.
The NYAA Programme offers three levels, each tailored to different stages of youth development:
Bronze Level
For individuals aged 13 to 30 years old
Minimum involvement period: 6 months
Silver Level
For individuals aged 15 to 30 years old
Minimum involvement period: 12 months
Gold Level
For individuals aged 16 to 30 years old
Minimum involvement period: 18 months
Each level provides a structured framework for participants to set personal goals, take on new
challenges, and achieve significant developmental milestones. The increasing level of commitment
at each stage encourages deeper engagement, resilience, and leadership growth as participants
progress through the programme.
By participating in the NYAA Programme, young people not only develop essential life skills and
leadership competencies but also learn the importance of service, perseverance, and global
citizenship. Ultimately, the programme seeks to nurture a generation of socially responsible,
confident, and engaged youth who contribute meaningfully to society.
The NYAA Programme is built upon three key components that every participant must undertake:
Service Learning (Touching Lives, Making a Difference)
The Service Learning component fosters the development of socially responsible and
compassionate young individuals who are attuned to the needs of their communities. Through
active engagement, participants gain a deeper understanding of social issues, cultivate empathy,
and take purposeful action to make a positive difference. Participants may serve through Values-
In-Action (VIA) projects or undertake other community service initiatives that align with their
interests and passions.
Objective: To instil the value of voluntary service and inspire participants to contribute
meaningfully by addressing community needs and supporting others.
Minimum Requirements:
Bronze Level: At least 20 hours of consistent service over a minimum period of 4 months
