The Revolution of
Imam Hussein (as)
Following Mu‘awiya’s death (60A.H/680), his son Yazid
(60A.H/680 -63A.H/683), took over power. On his death
bed Mu‘awiya, had advised Yazid that he had arranged
everything for him and made all the Arabs agree to obey
him. But his only fear was of al-Hussein b.Ali (4A.H/625
-61A.H/680); ‘Abdullah b.‘Umar (10B.H/61373-A.H/692);
‘Abd al-Rahman b. Abu Bakr (d.53A.H/673) and ‘Abdullah
b. al-Zubair (1A.H/62273-A.H/692). Amongst them,
Hussein b. Ali (as) commanded great love and respect
because of his close relationship with the Prophet (p) (1).
Mu‘awiya was fully aware that if Imam Hussein (as) paid
his oath of allegiance to his son Yazid; it would be the
greatest support to the legitimacy of Yazid’s rule.
After Mu‘awiya’s death, Yazid considered Imam Hussein
