revolution. Namely, that he did not revolt against Yazid
in any arrogance or mischief-mongering, or as a rebel,
or as a tyrant, but he had come out to seek justice and
to reform the community (Umma) of his grandfather, to
enjoin good and forbid evil, and to act according to the
traditions of his grandfather Prophet Muhammad (p) and
his father al-Imam Ali b. Abi.Talib (as) the voice of human
justice and the door of the city of knowledge of Prophet
Muhammad (p). “I did not revolt aimlessly or for pleasure
or to be unjust or corrupt but I took stand in order to
seek reform of my grandfather’s nation. I want to enjoin
the good and denounce the evil and take the course of
my father and grandfather” (8).
Before reaching Karbala(9), according to these sources,
Imam Hussein (as) told his companions about the
changes in the characteristics of the Muslim community
(Umma) who had deviated from the Holy Quran and the
(Sunna) of the Prophet (p). They had turned away from
enjoining good and forbidding evil, and he Imam Hussein
(as) stated that the full responsibility of all these events
fell upon the tyrant rulers and that the only alternative for
a believer to put an end to these excesses of tyrant rulers
and their deviation from the (Shari‘a) was by sacrificing
his life for establishing justice. Imam Hussein (as) saw
death as bliss. “Do not you see that the right is not
conveyed and the falsehood is not prohibited? Let the
