In relation to the third point, Imam Hussein (as) was
fully aware of the political situation of Kufa, and what the
people of Kufa had done to his father al-Imam Ali (as)
and his brother al-Imam al-Hasan (as).Therefore, he was
fully aware of the consequences of the revolution and his
death (18). His aim was to leave the doors open for any
Muslim to enjoin good and forbid evil. His call for help
was heard by all Muslims irrespective of their beliefs and
political positions.
Accordingly, despite the diversity of religious, political,
and socio-economic factors for Imam Hussein’s
revolution against Yazid and his government, he based
the principles of his revolution on Quranic verses and the
traditions of the Prophet Muhammad (p).
Imam Hussein (as) was the only legitimate caliph of the
Muslim community (Umma) according to the Quranic
verses, the (Sunna) traditions of the prophet (p) and
his knowledge (‘ilm) more than these pretenders of the
Umayyads who claimed the caliphate, practiced tyranny
and aggression (19), disobeyed Allah, prevented (al-
Hudud) from being practiced, appropriated the (Fai’) and
acted against the rules of the (Shari‘a). Therefore, his aim
was to change and reform what had befallen the Muslim
community (20).
