The Revolution of Imam Hussein
al-Imam Ali b. Abi Taleb. He managed to penetrate the
army and fill the water skin but he was ambushed and
surrounded by a massive number of Yazid’s army and
his hands were cut off. When Imam Hussein (as) reached
his brother al-‘Abbas, he asked him not to take his body
back to the camp because he had promised Sukaina the
daughter of Imam Hussein (as) he would bring her water
but he could not. Imam Hussein (as) lifted up his brother’s
head and put it on his lap and said “Alana inkasara dahri
wa qallat hilati” (my back is now broken and my strength
is weakened) (26).
“Those who believed and migrated, and strove hard
in Allah’s way with their property and their souls, are
much higher in rank with Allah; and those are they
the achievers (of their object)” (27). “Their Lord give
them good news of mercy from Himself and (His) good
pleasure and gardens, wherein lasting blessings shall be
theirs” (28); “Abiding therein for ever; surely Allah has
a Mighty reward with Him” (29).
Imam Hussein (as) was fully aware of the situation,
the dangers and the consequences he would encounter
(30). He had a strategic plan in mind to bring about
a revolution in the consciousness of the Muslim
community. In particular, his movement was based on his
own view of leadership (31).
