give in to the humiliation of the tyrants, and did not flee
like slaves (15) as he stated during the battle of Karbala,
and fought with seventy two of his family members and
companions against the army forces of Yazid until he
was martyred and his head was severed. Imam Hussein’s
tents were burnt, and everything was looted. His corpse
was trampled under the horses’ hooves. The rest of the
members of his household were made captives and were
publicly exposed. His head and the heads of his family
members as well as the heads of his companions were
raised on the tips of the spears and sent to the Umayyad
ruler in Damascus (16).
Thus Imam Hussein (as) saw it as his duty to remove
injustice, and oppose tyranny. He based his revolution
on three points: Firstly, the injustice of the Umayyad
ruler and his government and his own legitimate right
to change such a situation. Secondly, because of his
family bond with the Prophet (p).It is narrated that the
Prophet (p) stated that “Hussein is from me and I am
from Hussein; may Allah love he who loves Hussein”
(17). This tradition has a great significance and meaning,
as it shows that Imam Hussein (as) will follow the right
path of his grandfather the Messenger of Allah Prophet
Muhammad (p), and his revolution is connected to his
mission to save Islam from annihilation. Thirdly, on the
