Now bring the small stuff over the whipping (left to right in the illustration) to
make the first angled stitch. Stitch through about one-third of the rope’s girth,
staying on the same side of the whipping.
Rotate the rope 120 degrees. Bring the small stuff back across the whipping to
make another angled stitch—parallel with the first, but one-third of the rope’s
circumference removed. Stitch through the rope again, and make a third angled
stitch. Continue in this fashion until all the stitches are doubled, then clip the
end.
Note: For three-strand rope, the angled stitches follow the lay.
