               Braid with Three-Strand Core


               Braided rope with three-strand core can also be called 16-plait with three-strand

               core because the outer coat consists of 16 strands. I like Marlowbraid’s fuzzy
               coat;  it  provides  a  good  grip  and,  at  the  same  time,  feels  good  in  my  hands.
               Technically a two-part rope, it is unlike double-braid because 90 percent of its
               strength is in its twisted core.
                  This  is  a  difficult  rope  to  splice,  but  the  results  are  worth  the  extra  effort.
               Don’t attempt to splice any rope of this type under ¼ inch (6 mm) in diameter,
               because the Marlow splicing tool (see page 13) won’t fit; for smaller rope, use
               the solid braid splice described in chapter 5.
