2.2.1.2 Meshing for Flow Balance
The most basic meshing approach is focused on providing the user with Flow-related results, such as filling
progression, weld lines, potential air trap locations, etc.
To see flow balance, the modeling only needs to include the part and the “melt entrance” for the plastic
to enter the cavity, which can be either a user-specified face, or a gate from the Moldex3D gate wizard.
2.2.1.2.1 Import part
Import a part through the Import Geometry (Auto Heal) function and the import function will adopt the
“Auto-Heal” function from CADdoctor (See Appendix A for use of CADdoctor as a standalone program).
It is recommended to import a STEP file or .stp file into Moldex3D Studio as the tolerances Moldex3D uses
for surface connection and other geometrical properties are tuned to STEP files.
Studio does support most native CAD file extensions, but the quality of those geometries may be lower
than those coming in as STEP files.
2.2.1.2.2 Inspect part
It is important to know if there are any problems with the model even after the Auto-Heal has been
executed. To inspect the model, use the Check Geometry function.
