Rapala knot
This knot has—as the name implies—been promoted by the Rapala company for use with its
fishing-line products. It is intended for use with lures or flies, its small fixed loop allowing
these devices freedom to vibrate, wobble, and dart about in an animated way.
Tie an overhand knot (see page 292) several inches or centimeters from the end of the line, then
pass the end through the ring or eye (1) and back through the knot in the opposite direction (and
from the opposite side) to create a skewed slip knot (2). Wrap the end twice around the standing
part of the line (3). Then bring it back, tucking and trapping it, first through the overhand knot (4)
and then through the large bight created by the tying process (5). Tighten the knot and trim the tag
end off close to it (6).
