Arbor knot
This knot (also known as the reel knot) is used to attach fishing line to a spool or reel. It is
secure, compact, and because of the slippery nature of monofilament, it will tighten around the
reel—all these being requirements of a good reel knot.
Begin by passing the end of your line around the spool of the reel (1). Wrap the working end once
around the standing end (2). From behind the wrap, feed the working end through the loop you
have just made, forming an overhand around the standing part (3). In the remaining working end,
add a simple overhand knot to act as a stopper (4). Moisten and pull on the standing line to tighten
—the knots will snug up against each other and the reel (5).
