Accepting without reading the ad, pop ups or prompts before
proceeding. E.g. While browsing the Internet, an ad, a pop up or
prompt appears that says, "Your computer (or phone) is infected with a
virus, download this to clear the virus". Without fully understanding the
pop-up or prompt, you quickly "accept".
Downloading any infected software such as programs, utilities, games,
updates, etc.
Opening email attachments: As a general rule, do not open email or
attachment you were not expecting to receive. Computers can get
infected through that.
Inserting or connecting an infected disk, disc or drive: Any disk, disc or
drive are writable media and are susceptible to virus attacks.
Not running latest updates: Many updates, especially those associated
with Microsoft Windows are security oriented. Always keep your
operating system and programs up to date.
Pirating software, music or movies: Stop downloading pirated software,
books, music or movies. You may run the risk of downloading a virus
as those files and programs sometimes contain viruses.
No Antivirus Scanner in your computer: If you are running a computer
with Microsoft Windows, it's highly recommended you have some form
of Antivirus software and Spyware or malware protection. This
software can remove any existing viruses, spyware or malware and also
help prevent future infections.
