TO MEDIA QUERIES ON THE ACCOUNT GIVEN BY MS SUGIYEM BINTI SAMAD RADIMAH OF
BEING ABUSED DURING HER EMPLOYMENT IN SINGAPORE AS A FOREIGN DOMESTIC WORKER
On 28 October 2020, the Centre for Domestic Employees (CDE) in Singapore reported Ms
Sugiyem 's account of abuse to the Ministry of Manpower (MOM).
MOM initiated its investigations into this matter immediately. In addition, the Singapore Police
Force (SPF) also started investigations into Ms Sugiyem 's case after the CDE lodged a police
report on 30 October 2020.
The investigations by MOM and the SPF preceded notification of Ms Sugiyem 's case to
Singapore's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) by the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in
Singapore (KBRI) on 3 November 2020.
MFA has updated KBRI on the ongoing investigations by the relevant Singapore authorities.
Singapore has been consistent in its approach to protect the safety and well-being of foreign
domestic workers (FDWs), in accordance with Singapore's laws and regulations. The Singapore
Government does not condone any ill-treatment of FDWs and will not hesitate to take action
under the law against errant parties," tulis akun itu.
