Kompang
Kompang is a type of traditional musical instrument that is most popular with the Malay
community. It belongs to the drum musical instrument collection. Kompang leather is usually
made from female goat skin, but recently it is also made from cow, buffalo or synthetic leather.
There are two parts of the kompang, namely the face (there is skin) called the skeleton.
Then the body (wood) is called baluh. Kompang requires tension or choke that is placed between
the bone and baluh.
According to history, this musical instrument came from Arabia which was brought to
the Malay Land due to trade in the Malacca Sultanate era in the 13th century.
