Fundraising Campaign
to Help Brookfield Zoo
The ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has placed a significant burden on the
Chicago Zoological Society, which operates Brookfield Zoo. After being closed to the public last
spring, the zoo reopened on July 1st—but at only a 25 percent capacity threshold with all buildings
and attractions closed, as mandated by the state. CZS’ own policies prioritize the health and safety
of our guests and staff. These mandates led us to make the difficult decision to temporarily close
zoo gates again during January and February of 2021.
In response to the operating deficit caused by zoo closures and the zoo’s limited guest capacity,
the Chicago Zoological Society launched a special fundraising campaign—the Above & Beyond
Campaign—in June 2020. The goal of the campaign is to raise $10 million by March 31, 2021.
This revenue will ensure our 2,500 animals continue to receive a healthy diet and the highest quality
of care—costing roughly $41,000 a day. The campaign will also fund our world-class conservation
programs and remote-learning opportunities. Thanks to the generosity of our members, trustees,
and donors, we have made significant progress to date—but we are not there yet.
Please support the Chicago Zoological Society now.
Gifts of all sizes are needed and greatly appreciated.
For gifts of $1,000 or more, donors will receive
on-site recognition.
Please go to CZS.org/AboveAndBeyond for more
information, or to contribute to the campaign.
Thank you!
