In 1972, the first Sloughis appeared on the racetracks, initially only for demonstration
runs. The owners were eager to see if their dogs would enjoy racing and regularly

attended training sessions.

And despite many saying that these Easterners did not belong on the track, they
continued to offer their dogs an alternative to hunting: either racing or coursing. Two
characteristics stand out in this breed: it turned out that Sloughis suffered few injuries
and many of the dogs that perform at a high level do so over a long period of years, as can
be seen in the overview of UICL winners, World and European Champions.

In 1973, 10 Sloughis received their racing license: Muna (the foundation bitch of the
Schuru-esch-Schams kennel) and 5 of her children from her first litter: Afri, Arabeya,
Anisa, Aladin and Alif, as well as El Antah, El Hanza, El Ahtal, and El Basshar Ben Burd von
Klein Vossenburg. In that same year, the first five Sloughis took part in an official racing
competition, the Landessiegerrennen in Hessen (a region in Germany). The competition

was won by Arabeya Schuru-esch-Schams. In 1974, they also took part in international
competitions.

Unfortunately, there are no photos of the first race, but there are photos of the Kurpfalzrennen
