The feedstock for this 2520 T fuel will be provided from dried wood chips and / or dried sawdust.
Let us assume for the sake of this discussion it will come from the dried wood chips.

               The belt drier has a capacity of 1.5T / hr x 24 hrs / day x 250 working days = 9,000 Tonnes dry wood
fibre. If the need was there to dry an increased amount of fibre the next size up belt drier is 2T / hr.

               Electrical energy consumption

The Southwood sawmill currently consumes 1000MWHrs p.a. (figures provided by management)

Stage 1 extra energy consumption is 1042MWHrs p.a. This is consumed by the following:

                 Energy Consumption Stage 1 MWhrs
                 Gasifiers 134
                 Nova pellet press line 768
                 Belt Drier 96
                 Other Equipment 44

                 Total Consumption 1042

               Results

                   • Existing consumption of 1000 plus new consumption of 1042 = 2042MwHrs.
                   • Production of electrical energy is 7,000 hrs x 495kW = 3465 MWHrs.
                   • Energy available for export is 3465 – 2042 MWHrs = 1423MWHrs.

               Electrical energy savings & revenue

                                                                           Value p.a.
                 Current energy cost is $330 / MWHr x 1000 MW $300,00000
                 Surplus energy export revenue 1423 x $90Mw $128,070.00
Total electrical energy savings will be $428,070.00

We are drying 14,000 Tonnes woodchip from 50% m.c. to 12% m.c. in the belt drier. This will liberate
5320 Tonnes water or 5,320,000 litres and use approx. 4788 MW thermal energy. Or 4788MW. p.a.

The gasifiers will produce 780kW / hr x 7000 hours = 5460MWTH heat energy. If the belt drier
operates the same hours as the gasifiers then 100% of the drying energy can be provided by the
gasifiers, and no TaAnn heat energy will be required. However, if the driers operate for, say, only 16
hours / day then some additional heat energy will be required.

               Maintenance

With 3 x CHP units running together for 7000 hours / p.a. maintenance costs will have to be
considered as well. The annual allowance for maintenance per unit is A$70,000. However, $16,000
of this $70k is accumulated wear and tear that is only expended once every 3 years or so when the
major components have to be replaced.
