employer can escape liability for whatever
happens to staff at the self-organised
voucher spending event.
Cancelling these events
altogether is also very likely.
The reality is that so many
people will be voting
with their feet even if
events are put on, not
attending out of a
heightened sense of
personal safety.
On a different note, I am
already starting to see the
alleged health and safety
dismissal claims beginning to roll
in. I have seen people refusing to travel to
work and indeed even refusing to wear masks when
instructed to do so by management. I am sure this
stream of work (for me) will continue to increase.
Make sure your Risk Assessment and Measures
documents are as good as they can be, they’ll be
important documents in defending such claims. I
suspect the HR headache, which often occurs as a
hangover from Christmas parties will, this year at
least, be reduced only to be replaced by redundancies
and assertions of health and safety being breached.
