Facilities
As a company with a nationwide footprint MNS has extensive facilities throughout the United States and in Alaska and
Hawaii. As a result of the WesTower acquisition it was important for our facilities team to reduce and right size our
facilities to meet the needs of our customers and our areas of operation.
While this is a continual process, we are now also focused on a program to reduce our energy use at all MNS facilities
as well as select green and renewable energy options when they are available. Additionally, MNS has adopted the
following best practices in its real estate decision making process:
• Analyze lifetime running costs when purchasing or leasing buildings
• Require a minimum of LEED "Silver" when contracting for new buildings
One of the foundations of the MNS sustainability program is that creating a sustainable company comes from
sustainable people or ‘environmental champions’. MNS communicates sustainability related issues and training on a
regular basis focused equally on what can be done at work, at home, and in the communities where we work.
MasTec’s environmental champions are also an excellent resource for helping MNS innovate sustainability on a local
basis because what works in Miami, may not be the best solution for New England or the Pacific Northwest. As an
example, adiabatic cooling is utilized in many MNS locations where high heat and low humidity make it the ideal and
most efficient solution to cool our warehouses.
In addition to our energy use and energy choice, MNS is evolving and continuously improving its reduction of other
key resources such as water and paper use. Communications, training and testing is conducted nationwide to ensure
employees understand the impact of the everyday choices they make.
Policies to reduce water use, paper use and reduce landfill through recycling and resource reduction and/or
repurposing have been introduced and will be monitored and continually refined to create further reductions.
