The fuselage was temporarily ‘righted’ for a test
fit of the wing and so that the engine mounting
hardware placement within the fuselage may be
accurately determined. Once this was done,
the fuselage and wing were separated, the
fuselage once again moved on its side for work
that can be more easily completed in that
position and many elements of the wing
structure will be addressed while it is on its own

Avro Arrow II Construction
The replica Arrow II construction tends to be the
focus of most of the attention of our volunteers and our
visitors. However, the purpose of the Avro Museum is to
keep alive the name of Avro Canada Ltd, its world leading
aeronautical designers, builders and support staff and its
place in Canadian aviation and industrial history. A major
part of this is our archive digitization project that will
become the virtual museum that we aim to have on our
web-site in the future.
There has been excellent and diligent work done in the
past to collect, identify and store a great many
The wing temporarily fitted to the fuselage showing two of
documents, photos, drawings, reports, etc. In the early
the four fuel tanks located between the spars
days of the museum, a database was initiated and this is
being used as a starting point. Unfortunately the
reference nomenclature was not documented at that
time but we are making significant progress determining
the logic behind the original numbering system.
We are close to having a full listing of artifacts, drawings,
documents, etc. A database will be created that links the
reference number, document name and artifact location
together. Ultimately this will allow for the rapid retrieval
and viewing of our scanned documents as well as locating
our physical artifacts.
Due to the complexity of this effort, we are unable to
forecast a completion date but when finished, this source Rapid progress is being made by teams working on
of the history about A.V. Roe Canada and the Avro Arrow
separate tasks during the Tuesday evening work. A fourth
will be unparalleled in Canada and the world team (not in this picture) was also working on the cockpit
The objective during this quarter was to complete the floorboards
lower wing skin bonding to the wing structure, finish
some lower fuselage surface work, temporarily place the
fuel tanks in the wing structure, lift the wing and remove
the wing jigs.
