 Mackie Strong I: Introduction to Strength and Conditioning Training

The class is designed to introduce participants to proper strength and conditioning exercise. In the class,
participants will learn to properly perform a variety of exercises which target the important movement
patterns that are essential to healthy living.
The three main compound lifts that will be taught are the squat, bench and deadlift, in addition to many other
assistance exercises. In the initial phase of the class, lifts are modified to allow for proper movement patterns
to be established (goblet squat, kettlebell deadlift and a lighter bar for bench). As technique and movement
patterns improve and participants’ skills develop, participants will be progressed to the barbells at the
        discretion of the strength coach.
Following the main compound lift, participants will perform a variety of “assistance exercises” in a high-
intensity circuit fashion (note: high-intensity is relative to the participants’ abilities). For example, after squats
        participants may perform lunges.
As skills and movement patterns solidify, the intensity of training will increase to help to build the strongest
        and healthiest you.
