                          Away went Gilpin, neck ornought! The  dogs  did  bark, the children
                            Away went hat and wig;                   scream'd,
                          He little dreamt, when he set out,    Up flow the windows all;  [done!
                            Of running such a rig.           And  every  soul  cried  out,  Well
                                                                As loud aB he could bawl.
                          The wind did blow, the cloak did fly   Away went Gilpin—who but he 1
                            Like streamer long and gay;
                                                                His fame soon spread around:
                          Till loop and button failing both.   He carries weight!  he rides a race!
                            At last it flew away.
                                                                Tia for a thousand pound I
                         Then might all people well discern  And still, as fast as he drew near.
                            The bottles he had slung;           Twas wonderful to view,
                         A bottle swinging at each side,     How in a trice the turnpike-men’
                            A h  has been  said or  sung.      Their gates wide open threw.
