Back Splice: Step 2

































                    Tighten  the  crown  knot  against  the  end  of  the

                    rope. Splicing can start now.




                   Since back splicing serves the same purpose as whipping
                (tying  smaller  stuff  around  a  cut  end  of  rope  to  prevent

                fraying), this knot is sometimes known as Spanish whipping.
                Unlike  whipping,  a  back  splice  actually  becomes  stronger

                with use. A similar interweaving of strands can be used to
                splice two ropes into one.
